How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. I'm ashamed of what I'm writing

I’m writing a fanfiction for the first time in years, and if that’s not enough to find embarrassing, it’s a slow romance fanfiction involving an OC who eventually reaches NSFW territory.

To clarify, I am not too embarrassed by the content itself. It’s kinda cheesy, and a lot of that is wish fulfillment, but I’m fine with that. I enjoy reading my work and do my best to balance those aspects with realism. I’m just having a hard time shaking off the fact that fanfiction is often despised outside of the community, and that fanfiction involving an OC is often despised in the community.

I will not stop writing it. I feel the need to make my OC so well written that people recognize how realistic its integration is and want to read my work despite the first impression, which is an arduous demand of myself, given … the content of my job …

I enjoy reading my work and I see the value in it, but I want others to feel the same. Thoughts?
