Fear and greed as motivators

A colleague of mine once commented that two of the strongest motivators for people are fear and greed. I have reflected on this and believe that this is a very basic pattern of human behavior. When I discussed this topic with my wife, she said that sex and money are the strongest motivators. Unfortunately, she is right about sex since pornography is one of the most popular things on the Internet. Money is also a motivator, but it is associated with greed that I referred to earlier. If we have money, we always want more.

Since reputable companies will not be associated with porn, let’s tackle fear and greed.

These emotions are the main motivators used in some of the ads on the Internet. Most of the “high pressure” ads you see start out promising to make you over $ 1000 a day (choose your own number). This offer attracts greed. This is the combination of fear and greed, as you immediately think that unless you take advantage of this offer, you will lose this once in a lifetime opportunity. Search the Internet and see some of the ads that promise to enrich it without having to work on it, and you will see this pattern. Many of the eBook advertisements on the Internet today use these same techniques.

Remember fear and greed. Do not let these emotions make you make bad decisions on the Internet, because the opportunity will certainly be offered.
