How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. I had my brilliant idea today.

As the title says, I had my first brilliant idea tonight. Not only is it a good idea, but it is vivid and detailed. I had this detail in my head all day and after the shower, dinner, family time and the reddit hit me. Suddenly. I wrote the essence of most of the story and it’s amazing. I have never had such a complex idea for a story. Tomorrow I will take the time to start planning the details of the story, I.E. stage, characters and the like.

Has anyone else had days like this? Is this common? Is there anything I should consider before immersing myself in the details? Do I need to be hit with the reality stick? Thanks in advance. I am excited but also worried because I am only having “one of those moments”.
