Farther vs. Further

I’ve been editing and critiquing lately and have noticed these two words get mixed up a lot.

**Farther**: Used for literal, physical distances (“That tree is farther down the river.”)

**Further:** Used for figurative, metaphorical distances (“That’s the furthest thing from my mind.”)
