Writing your copy in a more authoritative tone will make your recommendations and suggestions more powerful. Tip # 1 – Clearly state the benefits and advantages
Since it is probably an obvious statement to say that nothing can be everything for everyone, we are sure that your idea, statement, service or product will have some limitations or disadvantages. Your job is not to detail this to your readers. Rather accentuate the positive. Make sure your writing focuses on the benefits and rewards they will receive.
For example, if you’re promoting a moped, then you don’t have to tell your readers that it won’t go as fast as a car. Otherwise, it will not fly either, but it will help the owner to reach his destination. It costs less than a car, it is environmentally friendly and easy to store.
Tip # 2 – Make use of the facts
It may be in your nature to write in a hyperbole nature, but this does not please the reader. In fact, it means that they will come to discount what you say due to your liberal use of ornaments. Of course, this is not the desired mindset you want them to have on your behalf. If you have not already done so, you will discover that the fastest way to reduce your credibility is to be known as one who exaggerates. But you can use this same principle on your behalf. Let your readers see you as the one who declares easily verifiable facts in your writing. Take advantage of these to make any point, suggestion or recommendation you want to make.
Tip # 3 – Back up your claims with proof
You will find that gaining an authoritative tone in writing is very similar to what happens with the news. Before making statements, they need proof that what they say is true. You should seek to do the same with your writing. When making a statement that needs to be verified, be sure to also have the figures and details to substantiate it. It can even go as far as using a statement, research, or study by a recognized expert to add to your claim if it’s available.
