How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. One of my struggles during writing.

I have a habit called “athlete of old trades, master of none” (I’m not sure if it’s spelled correctly) where I don’t have the discipline to complete the job. When I start something, I lose interest in it and start something else. This applies to me when I write and I want to get rid of this habit. Does anyone have any advice?
