How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. What to do when you are linked to a character that does not fit your story?

Hello ! I need some advice, I don't have anyone in real life to discuss this and this subreddit can be my answer.

I want to draw a comic, I know that this subreddit is about writing, not drawing, but I don't have problems with the part of the drawing, but with the part of the writing.

The problem is that I have planned my world and the characters that inhabit it (I want to write a crime mystery that takes place in a small Romanian town today) but the story does not fit with my characters.

Let me explain, my hobby since I was little was to create characters in my head and play with them, I am sure that I am not the only one who did this. Now, those characters that I created are perfect for the role play because their personalities and traits have been polished for a very long period of time, but the problem is that I am too attached to them, but they just don't fit into my story and No I know what to do, I prefer to direct my story towards them and then change a lot about them.

I'm not sure if I am explaining this correctly, I could give a summary of my ideas if that would help
