Do you feel you did not choose the ethnicity and sexuality of your characters?

That's something I don't think about when I create characters, I just do the character and imagine it in my mind in a certain race and I generally know their sexual orientation. I once tried to create a gay character, but as time went by with this character in mind, I realized that he was straight, as with another character who had no intention of doing gay, but during a dialogue he was writing, I just knew it was, although there is nothing about the character associated with homosexuality. The only case I think I chose was a character that was supposed to be white, but I realized that if she was a dark-skinned black woman, her rivalry with another character would be a little deeper.

Of course, I could write them in any race or sexuality I wanted, but I wouldn't be faithful to the characters I created in my own mind for my little world. I have almost all types of characters "diverse" speaking, but I never thought about that, they just came to me as they are. Do you feel the same when creating characters?
