How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. See someone use the title you planned to use

I am a young writer and decided to start writing a book of poetry about 2-3 years ago. I made the book in my hand and wrote it with a pen. I never gave him a title because I didn't think he would really try to publish it, but one day I decided on a perfect title for him. It looked so good that it looked like a real book. I also decided that one day I would try to publish it.

I look for the name after I "finished" the book and saw that someone else had published a poetry book with the same name. It was new and was published quite recently. I felt so sad and ashamed that I couldn't use the name now, I felt that I would be insulting the author (and, in fact, I got his book and read it, it was really good …) But I couldn't change it, I felt like I was betraying my job. So I began to consider simply not showing it to anyone and keeping it until I die, hoping that when the world ends, the aliens will find it and keep it in some kind of human museum or something.

I know this is probably much more common than my mind is making me think, and probably easy to solve, but I feel so … Meh. I do not know what to do.

Has this happened to anyone here? If so, how did you solve it and could you use the same title? I could really use some tips: /
