State of the Subnet: overpopulated, poorly educated, in panic
Hi! You may have noticed that today we reach one million subscribers. That's 1,000,340 "readers" right now. (Of course, as a recent main publication pointed out, 340 could be all readers).
The mods are happy that everyone enjoys postponing writing with us and know that for most of you (and at least some of us) redditting has overwhelmed the writing.
#Things to celebrate
First, to celebrate having one million subscribers, I have moved on and gathered what is probably the most requested subreddit feature: a discord server. It took some adjustments to find the set of rules that allow it to remain a place for high quality debates, but I think the configuration it has now will ensure it. The link is https://discord.gg/WMexcCa. All complaints, discussions, etc. The discord server should be published there. Everything found in reddit will be deleted.
Jokes aside, we really wanted to do something to celebrate. Since the subreddit is in writing, and that is apparently the goal, we thought it was a good idea to honor those who have really written something. Then, we will hold a contest here in this thread. Everyone who posts a high-level comment here will be randomly entered into a raffle to win a free critique of up to five thousand words from two different moderators. The draw will be held next Friday (at the time that automod releases this thread to replace it with the weekly criticism thread, which will not be published this week). If you are selected and do not have a piece to send or do not respond, we will move on to the next candidate after a reasonable period of time. Five winners will be chosen. Keep in mind that it would be a good idea to edit and correct the piece before submitting it, since that will allow a higher quality of criticism. ^ 1
*** EDIT: It has been pointed out that at least three of the four mods that have volunteered to criticize will not work in erotica. If my calculations are correct, that means there is no erotic. (Without eroticism. We will use the Potter Stewart standard.) ***
# General thoughts to harness this power and make sure you never have to rewrite the points
A million subscribers is a lot. I suggested simply closing the subreddit, since there is no way to avoid the tide of "how do I literally write something?" Publications now.
The pizza is good, especially with onion, chicken, extra cheese, bacon and pineapple.
If you have any questions about why your post was deleted, use modmail. We (or at least I) do not respond to direct messages about deleted posts, and we have ^ 2 reddit chat disabled anyway. Posting it again without permission can and has resulted in prohibitions without prior notice, even if you gave one of us twenty full minutes to respond to your private message and added a paragraph attacking the mod that removed it in the new post.
Stephen King doesn't remember writing his books, so * On Writing * is just a collection of things that he thought sounded good. Generally good advice, but you definitely need a grain of salt. (Also, if you publish "what book should I read?" Without any other information, that's the only decent suggestion you'll get.)
Reading is really important for writers. The audiobooks are probably fine. Other means are not the same. Please stop asking.
#In other news
We have a new mod since the last SotS. (I think). We had many candidates and spent a lot of time deliberating, but this one was good enough to be selected. You have probably noticed that she helps to perform general cleaning tasks. I am happy that someone else is using the reasons for deletion that I wrote.
Rule 4 was added to make it clearer that this is not / r / writingprompts. It is applied generously and, hopefully, the number of people who ask what color the childhood dog of the aunt's cousin of the aunt of MC's sister's boyfriend has decreased dramatically.
Rule 7 will disappear. Not because we will be less strict with image publications, but because we have completely disabled them. As I pointed out in the GD thread, they are one of the most consistent sources of publications that break the rules that appear in people's feeds. If you have suggestions for a new rule 7, so I don't have to memorize them all again (I just got used to changing the rule 4), let us know.
I'm sure I'm forgetting critically important things, so the other mods should fight over who gets the sticky comment to remind everyone.
#Conclusion
How do you think the subreddit is working? What topics do you want to learn more about? Who wants to fight with me for my popular opinions? Who knows how many adverbs I used?

^ 1 Without cash value, we should have it back at the end of February, without guarantees of any kind, without necessary or possible purchases, etc.
^ 2 Possibly only me
All opinions are mine, but mostly they are shared with at least a couple of other modifications.
EDIT: It has been pointed out that at least three of the four mods that have volunteered to criticize will not work in erotica. If my calculations are correct, that means there is no erotic. (Not erotic. We will use the standard of Potter Stewart).
