Is it okay for my narrator to know much more than any character could know?

In my book, it takes place in the future after the end of human civilization. I was going to explain where some of the new civilizations were in relation to where they were today (for example: the empire ___ resided where North America used to be). Or occasionally I would compare how ironic these new civilizations are compared to ours. Is it okay or does it rely a little on the breaking of the fourth wall?
