The advice "Read and read, and your writing will get improved" is so vague. Can someone please point the the process one needs to go through in order to improve their writing?

I have never been into books until I joined college. And it changed my perception the first moment o finished a book. I feel I love fiction. Especially the short stories (600-1000 words). I find immense happiness when I see known people’s writing getting published. Especially friends and teachers

It helps me to follow up their Writing with a bit attention. However, I want my writing to get published in the review journals or newspaper magazine’s fiction sections.

I am a curious learner and I know it requires time to write upto that standard. I once asked my junior brother about writing and he just didn’t have time. It made me feel bad. I am willing to improve.

I am planning for six months time. Can someone please help me with a routine on how to get your writing get improved?
