How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. How much do you read versus write?

Hey writers,

I recently realized I enjoy writing significantly more than reading. I appreciate both, but I’d say of the time I spend on the two, I write 80% of the time and read in the remaining 20%, and during the reading time I often want to start writing.

If I was given the options of either: giving up writing or giving up reading other **books** than my own (beside those for work/school), I’d likely give up the reading. Let’s limit the hypothetical to full books because if it was expanded to all forms of reading, then I think you’d have to give up writing to survive in 2020.

I was curious if:

* a) You feel similarly or differently, and
* b) How much writing vs. reading in terms of ‘mix’ (ie 70/30, 50/50, 20/80) do you feel is optimal for writers looking to improve?
