How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. Use of third-person perspective in the present tense in flashbacks

I am currently working on a paranormal novel. I am writing the entire novel in a close third person perspective in the past tense. The book includes a couple of flashback episodes, which I was hoping to write in a close third-person perspective in present tense, rather than past tense. I know the idea is a bit strange. I want to hear your opinion on this. Thanks
