Is "An Account of Disturbia" a shitty title?
I have been working on a series of short stories since I was 16 years old; I’m 22 years old. When I was younger, I obviously had more adolescent and unpolished taste. I have dedicated myself to this project with the above title for 6 years. It’s a series of horror and black comedy short stories connected to the same world and each story is inspired by one of my nightmares. I deal with a lot of paranoia and a feeling of disturbance, and my goal is to create a story of this “second world” attached to ours and the psychological disturbance it causes. It’s supernatural, but not too fantastical like Stranger Things. Some of the stories are meant to look believable, some are about supernatural creatures and places, some are comedy thrillers. I’ve stuck to this title simply because it’s been an enduring idea that I’ve spent time on. Now, 6 years later, I don’t like it the way I liked it when it came to me (sentimentality aside). So I want to know, if you were in a bookstore or library or browsing online and saw a collection of short stories titled “An account of disturbance”, would you roll your eyes because it’s pretentious or would it arouse great interest? I don’t usually pay attention to titles. In fact, that’s the last thing I decide because I care about the story and the content, and deciding the frills early on is detrimental to the job. But for this, I’ve worked on it so long that I wish I had a name for it when I refer to it in my head or write it down.
