How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. How can I add humor that is really funny?

I am unlucky to be someone who is not funny. I also stink of sarcasm, so writing characters or scenes that include some of that is extremely difficult. I know you can’t “get” funny, so is there any advice I can use to add comedy that isn’t painful to read? I usually write darker pieces for that reason (and also because it’s my strong suit), but I’d like to add some variety so it doesn’t get boring. Am I screwed up or is there something you can do to help me with that?
