How do you write a character that travels a distance?

Has anyone else sat for weeks waiting for that spark?

A long time ago I realized that my best poetry comes out of nowhere, it is not forced. Sometimes the lines just pop out of my head, almost as if my past and future were reciting them right into my head. In those moments, I draw on those lines, and those are my best poems, my best works of art. But sometimes nothing comes through for long periods of time, and I have this urge to write, but I don’t want to force it, it just doesn’t seem natural to me to force writing. So for anyone else going through that same kind of thing, what are your methods of making something happen? Usually I just go for a walk and help someone in the area or interact with someone I see to get the juice flowing, but I was curious if other people had similar or not so similar tactics …
