Can I use brand names and titles in my writing?

For example, my story is based on 2009 and my character sits down to watch Jersey Shore. Can I refer to him as Jersey Shore, or do I need to run a bit? I don’t think my target audience would understand the reference if it just said “a show where people go to a beach house in Jersey”.
