During closing, some of the things I really wanted to do was improve my writing and drawing skills. I searched the web for efficient ways to improve these skills. Most of the advice was: PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE To draw, I came across Drawabox, who taught the basics of drawing. From that, through a series of recommendations and research, I found a roadmap. Learn this, learn that. Do this, do that, and in the end, you can create anything. Learning these fundamentals made practice much more efficient for the opposite: draw what you see and think it will improve. But to write, all I could find was to read and write (and copy another writer’s work). For someone who had read very little so far, they had no idea what to read. The only advice was to read. Read what you like. How do I know what I like when I have not read anything? I took (free) courses online at edx. But the courses were very dry and boring. I tried to learn grammar (it had over a thousand terms). This broke me. There was no place to start. And I never read. I never wrote. I have seen many people write almost daily but have not improved. Is there a structured way to learn to write: improve one mistake at a time? Is there any beginning? How would you advise a friend who has just started writing or a child who is writing for the first time? For now, my ultimate goal is to be able to write in a more concise manner and convey the idea. Most of the time I can’t finish the sentence: I don’t know what words to use. It takes me a long time to write. (This took me over an hour). I am a CEFR level B2 (upper intermediate), English learner. I can’t seem to find resources in writing not as much as in drawings or art. Any advice is highly appreciated. Other than a few essays and short stories that were written just to pass my academics, there is nothing I can show you. Part of this has to do with my inability to write concise sentences. I never had the ability to write anything good. Despite having some good ideas in my head, I could never put it into words. So I was never involved in anything to do with writing. I always avoided writing. He took the easy path. Most of the time copied (essays, stories for my homework in college) off the Internet. I never went further. I want to change this now. If you asked me to write an essay, it would take months and I still wouldn’t have anything. I just want to be able to write my views / opinions on topics. I want to express myself I’ve had enough of not being able to write. You ask me to write about dogs and my paragraph comes out as one written by a 7 year old. I am a university student in the technical field but I want to improve my writing. I have it on my wish list for a day to write a movie / novel / short story / animation (15 years earlier).
