I really enjoyed writing throughout my childhood, and was truly convinced that one day I was going to be an Author. I was good and received many positive comments from my teachers and writing friends. Now I am older and I started writing in English (my first language is German), because 1. The market is bigger, 2. More people can read my stuff and 3. I like the English language, why not? I speak English fluently, I only read in English, I watch all the movies and TV series in English, I have friends who speak English on the Internet, etc. But as soon as I start writing a story, I feel like I sound like a little boy. Like, I use words that are “too basic,” or that I am not expressing myself eloquently enough, or that I am mixing American and British English and end up sounding crazy. It’s probably just a feeling, but it’s really daunting for me. And to be honest, it hurts, that I lost my passion for writing, because it was something that I really loved doing. How can I know if my writing level / style is not “immature”?
