So we understand that the plates essentially magnify the differences between the characters by showing their opposite qualities, but is there a term for a character that is exactly the same as the other and, being the same, can the character see the consequences of their actions? Actions? but in another person? In my story, the protagonist is a deconstruction of the sociopath archetype and his character arc is learning to connect with others, and part of how he achieves that is by having an anti-foil, so the antagonist is essentially exactly like him. . Seeing the antagonist act identically to himself, while the protagonist spends the entire arc fighting him, makes the protagonist question his own actions and ultimately decides to be different, i.e. become a foil to the antagonist. . So does this idea have a name? I’d like to know because then I can research examples of running this trope right and wrong to help with my own story. Thank you!
