How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. I have five characters, do they all need bows?

So obviously I’m writing a book, and I have five characters in it. I have the protagonist, his mom, a stepdad, a stepsister, and a best friend character he knows. Do EVERYONE need to go through arches? I’ve given them strong character traits (in my opinion), but the only ones who will go through a major arc will probably be the protagonist and his mother.
