A story: changing protagonists. Is this a thing?

I’ve written a story where I have a protagonist / antagonist pair indulging in a new pair at the third mark, then another pair at two-thirds. An example is that our first protagonist sets a car on fire at the end of the first part, then we jump to the beginning of part 2, where our new protagonist is a police officer controlling the arson. So the story continues throughout, it just takes new people to keep it going.
