Seriously, writing dialogue is a pain in the butt. I don’t mean to think of words to say, I mean to think of words that your CHARACTER would say, it has to be within their character and that is what I find difficult. For example, you won’t have a silly character who suddenly starts talking articulate, right? You have to constantly think about how your characters interact with each other and with the people of the established world without breaking their character and when there are times when it would be normal for them to get out of character (for example, a fairly rational attitude, calm character losing it) You always (at least in my case) ask yourself ‘is this a good enough reason for it to explode like this?’ Or ‘does this sound too artificial?’
