How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. I really struggle to keep my stories. I come up with an idea, and then as I write it, I smash my own ideas until I give up.

Every time I have an idea for a great story or a great idea, I start to create what I feel are interesting characters and a storyline, but once I start writing I get obsessed with marketability, I start to criticize the whole idea of the story already separating the plot holes and the character motifs and then finally I just think “this is stupid” and give up after 50 pages. How do you navigate this?
