I am a perfectionist engineer who wastes my time writing things that nobody wants to read!

I need your advice! As the headline mentions, I’m an engineer and a perfectionist, which is great when it comes to engineering but not when it comes to writing fiction, because I end up writing detailed stories that no one wants to read. Please don’t get me wrong: my problem is not that I don’t know how to shorten my story to make it interesting. At least I think so. My problem is that I do not know how to disconnect my engineer who wants to describe everything in its entirety. By the way, that’s what I’m doing for a living. Write detailed reports and describe estimates. And I don’t know how to turn off my perfectionist self that wants me to improve every written sentence. Twice. What I’m looking for is some kind of technique or methodology that allows me to skip less important and boring parts of the story. I usually have to get rid of half my story. I don’t mind the fact that I lose such an important part of my job. But I mind wasting so much time writing it in the first place. I only have 1-2 hours a day. That’s why I want to have a good time.
