How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. How to write a character who speaks poor English when the rest of the book is in normal English?

I am translating my aunt’s trilogy and the main character is meant to speak very poor English, as demonstrated in some parts where she travels to England (most of the book is set in Sweden). This looks great in the original language, as my aunt has written those parts in visual dialect, but I don’t know how to translate that into English when the whole book is in English, if that makes sense. Any suggestions are appreciated. 🙂 Edit: Sorry, I should have clarified that I am Swedish myself and speak both languages equally fluently, which is part of the reason you asked me to translate.
