Fellow writers, I have a piece of advice: don't consume too much visual media if you want to have an easier time as a writer.

I am not experienced enough to give advice, but I will be cheeky enough to give this crucial advice. You might ask why, what’s wrong with it? Seeing things can even be an essential way to experience more stories. Well the truth is that you need to consume the vast majority of the stories you experience in the form of books. Watching TV shows, movies, anime, etc … train your brain to think of ideas, jokes, character reactions, jokes, situations, etc … all in a visual format in your brain. ** For example, in my case, almost all the ideas in my head would work so well if they were in a movie, anime, or TV show. So I have to spend a few minutes thinking about how to translate that idea so that it works with text only. And a lot of ideas just don’t, so I end up discarding a lot of my ideas! ** Well I guess it wouldn’t be everyone’s problem. It’s a problem for me because I usually want to write a lot of jokes in my books. And the jokes are really difficult to translate from one medium to another, because a lot of the jokes can be lost when you can’t just show things. TL; DR: You read a lot more books than movies.
