Lamis Khamis was born in Iraq into a family of creative thinkers. His aunt was a seamstress and his uncle was a famous sculptor; it is these two people who most influenced his creativity. At the tender age of 6, she and her family moved to London, where she was already showing off her creative style and artistic talents.
He spent his academic years studying a wide variety of artistic subjects, including sculpture, painting, textiles, photography, and graphic design. This left her somewhat confused as to what she should focus on for her career, although she knew she was passionate about design and fashion. Eventually, he decided to study and earn his degree at Camberwell College of Arts.
In 1995 he graduated in Fine Arts, Sculpture and Ceramics. Soon after, he went to work for a London-based advertising agency. However, she found it difficult to conform to the conventional dress codes required for work and began to customize her own style of clothing.
It wasn’t long before several boutiques took notice of her and were interested in her unique style. She agreed to provide them with some of her designs, which sold out quickly, sometimes within hours of being delivered to stores. He eventually quit his job and started the “Lamis Khamis” brand.
A friend suggested selling some of her designs at London’s Portobello Market. On his first day, he sold his entire collection to two famous stylists. Its success was the talk of the town, among photographers, boutiques, celebrities and stylists alike. Everyone came to Portobello to buy all of their new designs. They were always looking for anything he could create.
Lamis attributes her drive and commitment to her studies in Fine Arts upon graduation. She says that some of the same skills she learned there carry over into the world of fashion. He visualized his creations as small works of art that could be used throughout the year. Her unique and diverse creations are for everyone to enjoy, not just famous celebrities.
One thing is for sure: Lamis Khamis was ahead of his time. Some of his creations that he designed years ago are only now on the catwalk. He has a passion for the industry and shows no signs of slowing down. You will continue to create unique and stylish designs that are sure to appeal to celebrities and ordinary people alike.
