Sell stories
I have been writing for myself for a few years and only finished a 100 page story a couple of years ago. It wasn’t good (although I’m glad I got it out of my system) and I remember writing a lot of bs just to hit the hundred page mark. I’ve wanted to trim my writing down to the bare knuckles, so there aren’t any bs. Also, at this point I have listened to the advice of several authors to start with stories. I’ve written a few one or two page sketches in the last few days and my goal is to come up with short 5-6 page stories that only contain the essentials and really fill with some emotion, just like a good poem would. I’ve written stories that I never finished, that were 30 or 50 pages long, but a lot of them didn’t flow. Basically now I want to focus on short stories and I’m at that stage where I finally want to write for them to get published, not just write for myself. I read a blog post about selling short stories, which I found helpful. He mentioned a subscription website called Duotrope. I’m willing to use this site, but I really wanted to ask this subreddit for their own opinion. What are the best ways to get published as a short story writer? If it has been published, how did you do it? I know about desktop publishing on Amazon, but I’m more interested in other ways, because I think viewing my stories on Amazon will be a real headache. Still, if in your case you were successful in desktop publishing, how did you do it?
