Would there be something wrong with me concentrating on writing for a few years instead of pursuing a career?

All my life I have wanted to be a writer. I have so much active imagination that it is difficult for me to focus on anything else. Because of this, I don’t feel the urge or ambition to pursue the rat race in a career that occupies me all the time. It sounds exhausting and unsatisfying. I’m seriously considering packing all my things in a car, moving to a cheaper city where I can rent a room and a simple basic job that covers my living expenses, and spending most of my time writing. I want to focus on my work for a few years. Does anyone else do this? Is this feasible? What are some cheap places to consider? Looking at Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Rochester NY, Milwaukee, some nice place like that but still a “city” /
