How do I deal with a possible plagiarism situation in advance?
I’m a college student helping a younger cousin research for a class and wondering if she might get in trouble for plagiarism. Hello everyone, I am currently a college student studying political science. I have a 4.0 and I love the theme. I am currently bored in quarantine, so when my younger cousin (high school freshmen) asked me to help her improve at writing and research, I happily accommodated him. I gave him my school’s database login and told him to read encyclopedias on his subject. Then I showed him how to extrapolate keywords from his encyclopedia sources and use them to search for articles in academic databases. She did this and found several items. Then I asked him to read the summaries of the various articles to find what was most relevant. Found 4 “really good” fonts. I asked him to read each of them and take notes in a separate Google doc. I explained concepts that she did not understand and asked her to read the parts from other sources that I knew with explanations. I also sent him videos on the structure and form of the essays. This process took a whole week and I am proud of the effort you have put into it. I didn’t give him any more help than my university English teacher had given me. The problem is, despite being completely your own work, your article looks much better than anything you’ve ever written before. I should have done it later. She spent so many hours researching, studying, and perfecting her article that it would be terrible for her to rule on suspicions of plagiarism. Of course, his writing style and vocabulary remain the same, but the structure and content of his writing have improved dramatically. The next problem is that your teacher may not have access to the articles that I asked her to use from my school’s database. What do you think?
