How do you write a character that travels a distance?

The title says it all. How do you write a character who travels from point a to point b in a part that isn’t very important to the main story? Whether it’s 10 miles or 100 miles. Did you just do a massive time jump? Or do you fill the short or long trip with important things that happened? The title says it all. I have emotionally connected with one of my characters.

I never expected writing to look like this. While writing my first fantasy novel, I noticed that I had somehow connected with the world and the characters that I created in my head. I want to believe that everything is real, that the characters have some real air to breathe and that the world is somehow hidden inside the Earth. I guess this is normal. But I have realized that I think about one of my characters too often. He is the perfect vision of a man for me. It wasn’t on purpose, I think, but I developed him the way a dream man looks and behaves to me, and I think I kind of… fell in love with him? It is the real? I’m crazy? I just wish he was real. I wish it wasn’t just a fantasy. I want to meet him, talk to him and experience all the beauty of my world with him. Maybe I just want to live in the world I created, not this one I guess. I don’t want to finish my novel. I dread the ending because I can’t stand the fact that the character’s story will be finished, his purpose fulfilled, and the world saved. Can not. Please tell me I am not the first nor the last in this.
