How would you turn your self-published book into an audiobook? How much?

I have a lot of books, but I’m not sure where I can go about turning them into audiobooks. Most people on a budget of five charge about $ 50 for every 1000 words, which would make even the shortest books $ 2000 or more to convert. Is that what it ends up being or am I doing it wrong?
